Biography: Jay R. Schuster is a partner in Schuster-Zingheim and Associates, Inc., a pay consulting firm in Los Angeles. He is an adviser to a wide range of prominent for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in linking employees and organizations through new pay strategies. A national leader in innovative pay with special emphasis on the use of variable or incentive pay, he works with organizations to investigate and introduce new pay where only traditional pay has been used. He works closely with executive teams and boards to develop total compensation strategies that emphasize performance during competitive times. His research interests include exploring the relationship between pay techniques and strategies and organizational performance. A frequent speaker on the subjects of pay and organization, he has written two previous books and many articles. He earned his B.B.A. and M.A. from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.
Patricia K. Zingheim is a partner in Schuster-Zingheim and Associates, Inc. She advises a wide range of U.S. organizations in both capital- and labor-intensive industries in the areas of employee and management pay. She has worked with many major organizations in the development of pay strategies that are integrated with their business, financial, and human resource goals. She advises organizations on practical approaches to introducing new pay to facilitate not only financial performance but also quality and customer value. A recognized expert in many new variable or incentive pay technologies and in the development of market-based computer assisted based programs, she is a member of the faculty of the American Compensation Association and a frequent speaker for management and business groups. She is the author of many articles and earned her A.B. from the University of Michigan and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Ohio State University.
